This slipway is capable of handling vessels of 500t displacement and is mainly used by fishing trawlers and tourist launches.

Marine services are responsible for pilotage and towage. They operate 24 hours a day, all year round

Experienced pilots ensure all vessels arrive and depart on time with the highest safety standards being observed.

Pilots can be booked by calling (03) 4729883 24 hours a day.

We have two pilot launches, the fast modern Aramoana and the Potiki.

Towage consists of three tugs.  Our two tugs, Rangi and Karetai, are fully equipped to handle all types of vessels. Both tugs have a bollard pull of 28 tonnes.  Our third tug, Otago, has a bollard pull of 58 tonnes.

Port Otago maintains full ship to shore communication systems.  Vessels may contact Port Otago Harbour Control on VHF CH16.  The working channel is VHF CH14.

Fresh water is available at both Port Chalmers and Dunedin, with delivery to the vessel at 25 - 40 tonnes per hour. Port Otago offers a comprehensive garbage service for all vessels, including MAF approved disposal.
