Inter-port cooperation

Shiptoshore

During the past 12 months, Port Otago interacted with other New Zealand ports on a range of safety, climate adaptation, sustainability, security and engineering solutions. These included:

  • Partnering with Napier Port to purchase a new $36m dredge.
  • Leasing our pilot vessel, the Potiki, to South Port, after its vessel ran aground on Boxing Day 2024.
  • Since August 2024, Napier Port has had another of our pilot vessels, the Aramoana, as a spare pilot vessel for the cruise season.
  • Liaison with Port of Auckland regarding our ship-to-shore ZPMC cranes, sharing upgrade information and collaborating on parts.
  • Inter-port conference/forum attendance:
    • Sustainability – Ports Environmental & Sustainability Forum, Tauranga Port
    • Cruise – Port Cruise Coordinators meeting, Port of Auckland
    • Marine and Engineering – Port Engineers’ Forum, Port Taranaki
    • Maintenance – Terminal Engineering Group, Lyttelton Port
    • Communications – Port Comms Hui (via Teams), Centre Port.
