Gaining regular access to Port Otago locations

Any business requiring regular access to Port Otago worksites is required to complete the Port Otago pre-qualification process and team members must complete the online induction before being eligible to apply for access to our worksites.
For cruise-related access, see Tour operator’s information

For all other businesses, please follow the process below.

Pre-qualification involves Port Otago assessing business partners and port users to ensure they are committed to safety, have good systems to back up this commitment and can work safely in practice.

Within your business, nominate your “business representative”. This person will act as a central administration point, coordinating your business’s individual team members.

The business representative will:

  1. Complete the business pre-qualification.
  2. If approved, the business representative will be sent a link to share with team members, so they can register and complete their individual online inductions.
  3. After a team member has completed their induction, if required, they can apply for a Port Otago access card. This application needs to be sponsored by your business’s Port Otago contact.

Start pre-qualification process

If you are an individual requiring access to Port Otago worksites, talk to your company about how to complete the online induction.

Renewing access

Pre-qualification - Your business pre-qualification will expire after five years. We will send your business representative a reminder to renew the pre-qualification when it comes due.

Port Access induction - if you have been notified your induction for Port Access has expired and needs to be renewed, or, if you need to complete an induction for Port Access for the first time, please follow one of the links below.

Renewal - Site Access induction

First time - Site Access induction

For first time site access inductions, you will need to enter your business pre-qualification key, available from your business representative (see details above).

You may also be required to complete or renew a Site-specific induction for your intended work area.

Keeping insurances up to date

Insurance documents must be renewed annually. Your business representative will receive an email reminder to renew these.
Please forward these updated insurance certificates to us each year. Failure to do so may result in your pre-qualification and access being revoked.

How to get access for a new team member

Your business representative will share the business’s unique online induction registration link with the new team member. They can then register and complete the online induction.
