Wellness programme

Our vision for Wellness at Port Otago is simple. We want our kaimahi to be well supported, so they can feel their best. We therefore give kaimahi access to the resources they need to achieve good wellbeing.

Our Wellness framework

Our framework is based on the Four Dimensions of Wellbeing (Te Whare Tapa Wha), developed by Sir Mason Durie in 1984.

The four dimensions are:

  • taha tinana (physical wellbeing)
  • taha hinengaro (mental wellbeing)
  • taha wairua (spiritual wellbeing)
  • taha whanau (family wellbeing).

Traditionally, the four dimensions are visualised as a house. We use a container ship.

  • Good Yarn mental health literacy programme
  • Free period products at all worksites.

Other activities organised by the team include:

  • Campaigns such as Steptember, Money Month, Movember, Pink Shirt Day and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
  • Supporting community events, such as gifting Christmas presents to local schools, and donating food items to Presbyterian Support’s Foodbank Kai for Octacan and our local Kōpūtai Foodshare at Christmas.
  • Winter Wellness Seminar Series, aimed at improving kaimahi health habits and overall wellbeing.
  • Supporting Port Otago social sports teams to get out and have fun.
